It can be easy to neglect the exterior of our homes since we spend more time inside, but the best time to make a great first impression is before visitors even come in the front door. A tidy yard goes a long way, but there are lots of small, affordable updates you can make to the front of your home that can take it to another level. Here are a few options.

  1. Paint your front door: A popular option when preparing to sell, painting your front door a trendy color only takes a couple hours and can actually improve your ROI. A fresh coat of paint on such a prominent feature gives visitors the impression that your home is clean and well-maintained.

  1. Invest in new lighting: Whether you’re lighting up your walkway or installing stylish sconces near your door, new lighting is inviting to visitors while also deterring would-be intruders. For ease in your daily routine, opt for smart lighting that is motion-activated or  has a light sensor.

  1. Give your entryway a symmetrical look: Our eyes love symmetry. Make your front step into a feature with matching sconces (black is a popular choice) or matching foliage on either side of the door (such as large potted or hanging plants). If you have a larger porch, consider adding comfortable seating such as rocking chairs with outdoor throw pillows.

  1. Buy new house numbers: When was the last time you took a good look at your house numbers? First-time visitors are guaranteed to notice them. Home improvement stores have plenty of modern options to replace old or outdated sets. You can choose from metal, acrylic, backlit LED, and much more. For something more unique, check out customized Etsy store options.

  1. Upgrade your mailbox: Mailboxes are another exterior fixture you might not think to upgrade. But why not? There are plenty of affordable mailboxes, whether you want something sleek and sophisticated or a bright pop of color. Just make sure to check USPS regulations to ensure your mailbox aligns with their size and placement standards.
